Rhodesian Pioneer Club UK July braai 2016

The July Braai, or “JB”  is an annual event hosted by the Rhodesian Pioneer Club in the UK.  This year, it was held at Beechwood Leisure Park & was very well supported.  Depending on school holiday times, it usually takes place during the last weekend in July.

Accommodation

There is normally a broad choice on offer –  Cabins, caravan facilities, camping sites (with or without electric) & glamping/ready tents. Some visitors opt to support local B&B’s in the area, & commute by car or cab.

Program

This varies slightly from year to year, but follows a general pattern which is helpful because it makes for confident planning.

Friday       – Fires lit, bar open, live entertainment in the big tent.  Music continues until 1am.

Saturday  – Stalls for shopping. Games, a fancy dress competition, jumping castle, tug of war.  Children are well catered for, & there is plenty of food & drink on offer. Biltong, dry wors, bunnies, fudge, vetkoek & wors rolls are plentiful for anyone who doesn’t fancy cooking over the fires. Castle, Savannah, Windhoek & cream soda are included with the drinks on offer from the bar. Later, live entertainment starts up & dancing continues until 2am.

Sunday     – Remembrance for missing friends is followed by chill out music, fires & socialising.

Other activities vary & include options like fishing / clay pigeon shooting.

Booking

Booking is very flexible – Ranging from a day, a night, the weekend or an extended stay at the venue. There really is something for everyone, all ages & all pockets.   For more information, either contact the Club directly, or search for the Facebook group – July Braai 201X (X for the year)

Social Responsibility

The Rhodesian Pioneer Club supports the Zimbabwe Pensioners Support Fund

There are many older people in Zimbabwe who rely on support from the ZPSF for their daily & medical needs.  Fundraising is vital to keep this service providing essential supplies for people in need who have no other means of support.  Please feel free to donate via the Club or directly via their site.

Above all, this is a family fun camping getaway providing a local opportunity for socialising, shopping & fun. It offers great value fun entertainment while supporting a worthy cause.
